Key technology for phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge

Phosphorus is a finite, essential resource. Since municipal and industrial sewage sludges are rich in phosphates, there is no way around their targeted recovery.

The decisive step for economic recovery is thermal drying. It massively reduces the volume and optimally prepares the sludge for incineration and the subsequent extraction of phosphorus from the ash. The challenge lies in the physics: during drying, sewage sludge passes through an extremely sticky phase (the "glue phase") that often clogs conventional systems.

This is exactly where the KÖLLEMANN self-cleaning system shows its strength. It reliably prevents caking and guarantees trouble-free continuous operation with consistently high heat transfer, even with difficult consistencies. By using process waste heat, our technology can also often be operated almost energy self-sufficiently. In this way, we not only provide the basis for securing raw materials, but also make the entire process ecologically and economically efficient.

Phosphorus is becoming scarce. Our machines are the decisive step in rescuing this treasure from sewage sludge instead of simply disposing of it.
